Detox your Liver for Health & Vitality

It is your liver’s job to clear the body from toxins and excess hormones, but we often end up with more estrogen as we go through perimenopause and menopause. When excess estrogen is not able to be cleared from the liver, estrogen gets reabsorbed back into the body, resulting in estrogen dominance. Estrogen dominance can lead to a series of uncomfortable symptoms, such as severe PMS, exhaustion, crankiness/moodiness, and abdominal fat accumulation, to name just a few.

Luckily there are ways we can help fortify the liver to ensure it can do its many jobs effectively. One of the best ways is through supplementation with methylated B vitamins. B vitamins support liver detoxification pathways. Other beneficial practices include Epsom salt baths, gentle dry brushing of the body, and castor oil packs on the abdomen overnight.
Best ways to help detox the liver include:
Eating better (more nutrient dense), not less.
Drink lots of water with citrus or cucumber/celery.
Prioritizing fat and fiber for increased motility.
Take a probiotic for improved gut health.
Ensure we are getting enough protein (.8-1.0 gram for each kilogram of ideal body weight).
Focus on the 3 Ss: sex, sleep, and stress. We should get more of the first two and less of the last.
Good meal balance of high-quality protein, fat, and fiber. No naked carbs. If you eat dessert, make it with the meal.
Practice relaxation and mindfulness to balance stress.
If you do time-restricted eating, limit fasting during the latter half of your cycle, particularly the last week before your period.
Bump up our weight training.
Add in organ meats (!) to our diet.
